Incident report of the Grounding and Evacuation of the Empress of the North. On May 14, 2007, the Empress of the North, a 360-foot stern-wheeler style cruise ship, with 206 passengers and 76 crew members on board, struck a reef in the vicinity of Rocky Island in Icy Strait, Alaska. Two hundred six (206) passengers and forty six (46) crew members were safely evacuated to other vessels in the area. All passengers and crew were transferred ship to ship.
