On 9 October 2010, the Lisco Gloria was on its way from Kiel to Klaipėda, carrying 204 passengers and 32 crewmembers. Just after midnight an onboard explosion occurred on the car deck, which resulted in a fire that later engulfed the entire ship. All passengers and crew were rescued from the ferry by the German Coast Guard and some smaller vessels that had hurried to the scene, and transferred to other ferries.
